Chris Standring was classically trained at the London College of Music. Upon completing his education, he headed for Los Angeles to put his artist career on the international map. It didn’t take too long for Chris to integrate himself among the elite Hollywood music community, enjoying success as a sideman both live and in the studio. Since his arrival in California, he has recorded with Bebe and Cece Winans, Jody Watley, Omar, theSolsonics, Carol Bayer Sager and Rick Braun. He has performed live with Braun, Marc Antoine, Patti Austin, Bob James, Dave Koz, Richard Elliott, Boney James, Peter White, Kirk Whalum and Al Stewart. Along with his sideman work, Chris has also headed up his own recording project, Solarsystem, which featured Velvet co-producer Rodney Lee. The band was featured on the 1995 compilation Groovin’ High (Stepping Stone).
In February 1996, Chris took part in the Guitars, Saxes and More US tour featuring Marc Antoine, Peter White, Kirk Whalum and Rick Braun. He is now part of Rick Braun’s touring band and is featured on one of 1997’s top selling contemporary jazz releases, Braun’s Body & Soul. With Velvet, Chris Standring’s playing and composing abilities are unveiled and stand strong on their own, adding yet another bright color to the vibrant contemporary jazz world.
